“Despite taking care to avoid bringing the virus home, my wife and I have tested positive for COVID and are symptomatic. My family is taking the necessary isolation measures, ”said the former president. “Let’s not let our guard down” added.

Vizcarra has been the subject of a scandal over his secret vaccination with the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm in October, while still president and months before than Chinese injection has the green light, December 31st.

He did it with his wife Maribel Diaz, and his older brother, Cesar Vizcarra. The former president claimed he was one of 12,000 volunteers for the vaccine trial, but Cayetano Heredia University denied it, the institution responsible for testing in Peru.

On the other hand, The scandal did not prevent Vizcarra from being the most voted candidate in the recent legislative elections, with more than 165,000 votes.

The choice, however, was questioned after Congress invalidated him on April 16 for 10 years to hold public office for the “vaccine door”. Vizcarra was accused of misuse of position, collusion and misrepresentation, with which Congress, after a quick investigation, sanctioned him with 86 votes for and zero against by banning him from holding any public office.

Following the Congress vote, Vizcarra said he would defend himself in any case to overturn the “illegal” decision.

In addition to Vizcarra, the Parliament excluded for eight years the former Minister of Public Affairs from the civil service. Salud Pilar Mazzetti; and for a year to the former chancellor Elizabeth astete, who also received the irregular vaccination with nearly half a thousand senior officials.

Vizcarra, who took power in 2018 after the resignation of Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, was sacked in November by Congress accused of corruption for allegedly receiving bribes while he was a regional authority eight years ago, in an episode that generated a deep political crisis with a change of government.
