EpiVacCorona was developed in 2020 by the Vector laboratory, one of the largest virology, epidemiology, molecular biology and bacteriology research institutes in Russia.

Russia already has four vaccines against the coronavirus: Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya Center in cooperation with the Russian Fund for Direct Investments; Sputnik Light, the light version of the first Russian vaccine; EpiVacCorona and CoviVac, produced respectively by Vector and Chumakov laboratories.

EpiVacCorona is based on a chemically synthesized antigen, that is, it does not contain live virus.

Antigen is a substance that causes the human immune system to make antibodies against a virus.

Until the beginning of March, EpiVacCorona has been approved for use in Russia, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
