A 27-year-old man was arrested in the final hours after he fled a police station where he attempted to bribe police after discovering he had laid false charges for the theft of two cars.

Events precipitated in the sixth section of this city and in addition to the owner of the cars, a friend of his was accused who played a key role in this story: he had the mechanical workshop where the two vehicles had previously been. disassembled.

It all started last Wednesday when José Benito Novarr (27) showed up at the police station in República del Líbano and Balcarce to report that his Peugeot 207 Compac had been stolen. In his account, he explained that when he left his home in the Libertad neighborhood, he was approached by an armed robber who, after threatening him, stripped him of his vehicle.

The police opened a case for aggravated car theft and did the routine: they disclosed the patent and the characteristics of the Peugeot so that other jurisdictions would be attentive and if they saw it, they would intercept it.

The unusual began to play out in this story when the next day, Thursday, Novarr approached the police station again to say that another car on his property, a Chevrolet Corsa Classic, had been stolen. The doubts ended up being imposed on the members of the sixth police station in charge of the investigation and to dispel them, they summoned the applicant to ask for more information. It was then that Novarr admitted that the cars had not actually been stolen, but had given them to a friend who had a body shop to take them apart and thus be able to take out insurance against the theft of the two vehicles. .

When the police stressed that he should be detained and that they read his rights, the man offered money to be released. However, members of the Sixth Police Station did not agree, and Novarr suddenly fled. A few blocks from the station, the man was arrested.

Once the situation was known, the economic crimes prosecutor David Bruna and his colleague Romina Díaz, from the auto theft prosecutor’s office, intervened for the various crimes. Police showed up with a warrant at Novarr’s friend’s mechanical shop and seized the engine and auto parts from the Peugeot 207 Compac. Mechanic Luis Caloso (48) has been apprehended for the crime of cover-up while Novarr will face a false accusation, fraud and corruption charge.
