International Labor Day commemorates what happened on May 1, 1886 in the United States. On that date, a workers’ strike began to demand the 8 hour day which lasted until the 4th day of the Haymarket uprising, which ended with the execution of a group of anarchist trade unionists, whom they called the Chicago Martyrs.
