During the protests of the national strike in Colombia, 13 people were killed at the hands of the police: tremors

The Colombian human rights organization, the NGO Temblores, denounced on Monday the murder of at least ten people in the country at the hands of members of the national police during the day of protest of the national strike which took place this Friday.

The NGO that works in the country for the protection of victims of police violence, street dwellers, LGBTI people and sex workers, reported that this register of victims was carried out after rigorous documentation and a triangulation of the cases which arose during the mobilizations of April 30 on the national territory.

“Over the past few hours, our team has worked rigorously to establish the circumstances of time, way and place in which members of the police deliberately and premeditatedly murdered at least ten people amid protests across the country», Indicated the NGO Temblores.

Likewise, the NGO indicated that through the “ Grita ” platform, which aims to facilitate complaints from citizens, recorded 851 cases of police violence in the country from Wednesday April 28 at 6:00 a.m. to Friday April 30 at 10:00 a.m.

Among these cases recorded by the virtual platform were reported 13 victims of homicidal violence perpetrated by members of the police, a citizen who died in the middle of the demonstrations and 68 victims of physical assault by members of this institution.

Likewise, it was reported that eight demonstrators were victims of attacks against their eyes, 98 violent interventions by members of the public forces and 18 cases of firearms fired during police protests.

At the same time, in the reprehensible cases documented by the NGO The sexual violence perpetrated against four protesters during the days of strike in the country by members of the Public Force stands out.

These social mobilizations have been called by the social, union and political sectors against the tax reform of the government of Iván Duque and the social and economic crisis that the country is going through and which has been exacerbated by the covid-19 pandemic.

Cali mayor asked prosecutor’s office to investigate actual death toll in nationwide strike protests

Reiterating to citizens not to get carried away by false figures on deaths in Cali as a result of the protests, as well as to disclose them, the Mayor of Santiago de Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, called on the Attorney General’s office to conduct a full investigation into the real citizens who died in the capital of Valle del Cauca due to the national strike protests on April 28, 29 and 30..
