Infections decline in Germany, after new legislation to stop third wave

Germany this Saturday maintained the trend to decrease in cumulative incidence, already following more than a week with this evolution, another sign that it manages to control the third wave of the pandemic.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for Virology reported that over the past 24 hours, 18,935 new cases of coronavirus and 232 deaths.

The figures are significantly lower than those of last Saturday (23,392 cases and 286 deaths) and those reported this Friday (24,329 positives and 306 deaths).

Thus, the cumulative incidence over the last seven days nationwide has fallen to 148.6 cases per 100,000 population, however with large regional differences (there are five districts above 300 cases and one above 400).

This cumulative incidence contrasts with the 153.4 of this Friday and the 164.4 of last Saturday.

However, Germany is generally far from being able to initiate a de-escalation and a gradual withdrawal restrictions on public life and economic activity, many in effect since last November.

Since the end of April, the so-called “emergency brake” has been in effect, a federal instrument that requires the automatic application of a package of anti-pandemic measures – including a nighttime curfew – in all districts. which exceed a cumulative incidence of 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Currently, according to RKI data, only 91 of the country’s just over 400 districts are below this limit.

In total, Germany has 3,400,532 confirmed positives – of which 3,012,100 are considered recovered – and 83,082 deaths with or from covid.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health on Friday, 26.9% of the German population (22.4 million) have already received at least one dose of the covid vaccine and 7.7% (6.4 million people) have already received the complete diet and are fully vaccinated.
