Isabel Díaz Ayuso spoke after comfortably winning the regional elections in Madrid: “Freedom triumphed”

With more than half of the votes counted, the Popular Party, led by the current president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, would more than double the result of 2,919, when he won 30 seats, while the Socialists, winners of these elections, would abandon eleven.

“Freedom has triumphed”Diaz Ayuso said during a speech to his supporters hours after the first election results were known.

Among the winners of the hundreds of people gathered at the PP headquarters in Genoa Street in Madrid, with barely half an hour left before the start of the curfew in the Community of Madrid, the winner said: “We are going to be free because we want Madrid to come back to life tomorrow, with a passion for life. The two most precious goods of man are freedom and life, and freedom is to carry a flag of any color and to be respected ”.

In addition, he came back to justify what he calls “the Madrid lifestyle”, in the name of what most of the restrictions imposed by Pedro Sánchez due to the coronavirus pandemic have rejected.

“Spain is something else, Mr. (Pedro) Sánchez and here is the best from all over the world to live in peace and freedom. Being from Madrid of Portugal, Madrid of Cuba, Cordoba, Chamberí. The conservative The People’s Party (PP) won the regional elections in Madrid on Tuesday and would win 62 seats, with 25% of the votes counted, while the Socialists (PSOE) would return to 27.

The other two groups to the left of the PSOE (More Madrid and United We Can), would improve their result with 24 and 11 MPs respectivelyand the far right Vox would get 13, one more than in previous elections.

However, the liberals of Citizens would be left without representation, by not reaching 5% of the votes necessary to have representation in the regional parliament, compared to the 26 deputies they obtained in 2019.

In any case, not having reached the absolute majority of 69 seats, Díaz Ayuso will see the need for 13-seat support from the far-right Vox party to return to rule the richest region of Spain, ruled by conservative governments for 26 years.

In front of hundreds of people gathered in front of the PP headquarters in Madrid, the national leader of the party, Pablo Casado, celebrated the results with Díaz Ayuso, assuring that “Today, Madrid presented a motion of democratic censure to the Sanchismo (Sánchez government)”.
