Colombia records 14,806 new covid-19 infections, May 5

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported: this Wednesday, May 5, 14806 new cases of covid-19 in Colombia. In the last 24 hours, 66.511 tests which 38.353 threads PCR and 28158 on antigens.

The report also notes that, 388 Colombians died of the disease within the last 24 hours. In this way, the country reaches a total of 76,015 deaths since the virus reached the national territory.

By clustering all the figures, Colombia reached 2,934,611 infected, of which 93,939 active cases and 2,754,940 correspond to positive cases which have already overcome the disease.

Regarding the regions with the most reported cases, Bogota leads with 4048 infected, followed by Antioquia with 1948 and in third place Cauca Valley with 935.

There are 1,270 conglomerates in the country. The territories are: Amazonas, Antioquia (Ituango), Arauca, Atlántico, Barranquilla, Bogotá, Boyacá, Bolívar, Buenaventura, Caldas, Caquetá, Cartagena, Casanare, Cauca, Cesar, Chocó, Córdoba, Cundinamarca, Huila, La Guajira, Meta, Nariño, Norte de Santander, Putumayo, Quindío, Risaralda, San Andrés, Santa Marta, Santander, Sucre, Tolima, Valle, Vaupés, Vichada, Guaviare and Guainía.

The most recent report from the Ministry of Health also states that, until midnight on May 4, they had already been applied in Colombia. a total of 5,589,123 doses of the covid-19 vaccine.

According to the same report, the number of fully vaccinated Colombians, that is, those who have already received two doses of biological product, It currently has 1,973,950 people.

Likewise, an increase in the vaccination rate was detected, where for the day, a total of 201,867 doses were applied, 114,293 of which correspond to the second injection.

A special request has been made by the national government so that on the various highways and roads of the country where blockades occur the passage and free movement of vehicles carrying medicinal oxygen are authorized, as well as other drugs and medical supplies mainly for the care of the covid-19 pandemic.

In this regard, Leonardo Arregocés, Director of Medicines and Health Technologies launched the invitation for those trucks that carry vital supplies “They can have free movement, because their load is necessary for patient care that they are at risk given the pandemic situation ”.

So said, the director said that in terms of oxygen production in the country, the capacity is still sufficient, “but the limitation concerns the transport from the place of production to the health facilities where the services are provided”.

Faced with the situation, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, as well as the direction of traffic and transport of the national police, the office of the mediator and the secretaries of health, work is underway to keep the passage of oxygen, medical supplies and drugs open.

Thus, Arregocés pointed out that, for example, in the Valle del Cauca there is an oxygen production plant, in addition to being a conditioning and distribution center for drugs and other supplies for the care of dialysis patients, in intensive care units (ICU), among other public health events.

With such a scenario, the official said, “at the moment what we do know is that there are roadblocks on many roads, so we are working on identifying closure sites so that the vehicles which transport oxygen or which transport drugs yield to them ”.

He added that oxygen must be guaranteed to all IPS in the country. “This is what our efforts are aimed at at the moment,” said Arregocés, indicating that providers in the Caribbean, Pacific and southern regions of the country and in cities like Medellín are already reporting a complex situation due to limitations.

“Every day we receive reports from IPS that the situation is further complicated by road closures. These are institutions that previously required oxygen with a longer periodicity; once a week they filled the tanks with liquid oxygen, but at this time, due to the number of patients they have, they need the supply more frequently. These providers are even more at risk, ”he warned.

In this direction, many patients currently hospitalized or in intensive care, today they are at greater risk if transport vehicles are not abandoned.
