India recorded over 4,000 coronavirus deaths in one day

India surpasses 4,000 daily coronavirus deaths on the last day, which represents a new record for the country which is going through this wave of infections with four times more cases than the first and which has put on alert Unicef in the face of the high number of orphaned children vulnerable to trafficking and abuse.

The Department of Health reported that on the last day 4,187 deaths were detected due to the disease, with which the total number of deaths has exceeded 238,000 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of infections, meanwhile, was 401078 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cumulative cases to nearly 21.9 million.

Faced with the dire situation, the Prime Minister of the Southern State of Tamil Nadu, MK. Stalin, announce one total quarantine for the next two weeks for “unavoidable reasons,” reported Europa Press.

The move, which comes after reporting nearly 26,500 infections and nearly 200 deaths a day, makes Tamil Nadu the third Indian state to impose a shutdown after Kerala and Karnataka, according to Indian television NDTV.

The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is under pressure to declare a nationwide quarantine, a measure that has been delayed due to the high cost it would imply for the economy.

India is the second country in the world most affected by the coronavirus, only after the United States.
