Video | Self-defense groups threaten clients of “tomaderos” in Montería

This weekend, a video recorded by a member of a group who identifies as a member of social networks began circulating on social networks. Colombia’s Gaitanista Self-Defense Force (AUC), in which we see how they intervene in El Vidrial, a village located in the rural area of ​​Montería (Córdoba) to warn that they will kill those who start fighting in the “tomaderos” of the region.

The residents had no choice but to listen to the speech of the group’s spokesperson, while the other members threatened them with weapons. El Meridiano also announced that there were around 100 people at the site, who arrived there from Montería. While they were concentrated in the vicinity of the football ground of the corregimiento, “They warned everyone that authority had arrived and that anyone who now organized street fights would die.”, local media reported.

Considering the situation, On May 17, the office of the mayor of Montería created an extraordinary security council, where he rejected the armed act by which locals were intimidated.

In addition, Mayor Orlando Benítez assured that in the region there is a vacuum of authority, for which he called on the Metropolitan Police and the National Army to immediately deal with the incursion of these criminal armed groups, as well as the failure to comply with measures to stop the contagion of covid-19 such as the ban and curfew.

“I condemn the failure to respect the measures decreed in Montería which took place in Vidrial, which contradict the joint institutional effort to preserve life and health. Likewise, I urge @PoliciaMonteria to fill the authority void and @ Ejercito_Div7 I ask for immediate collaboration, ”the local president said on his Twitter account.

According to El Meridiano, the events in El Vidrial they would have been coordinated by the head of the “Clan del Golfo”, alias “Esteban”, who would have sent his men there to give a warning to those who frequent these places so that they “stop coming from Montería to create disorder where they should not”.

According to local media Chica Noticias, the Metropolitan Police Command of Montería, as well as the National Army, the Mayor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office are in the village to coordinate actions that allow the identification and capture of the members of the criminal organization that intimidated this group of people.

Likewise, the authorities have called on residents to report any criminal act that puts their lives in danger.

The “Clan del Golfo” is one of the criminal groups that have seriously affected the Montería region and its surroundings. On May 13, local police observed the capture of aka “Peter”, alleged area leader of the Javier Yepes Cantero sub-structure of the armed organization.

According to information from Caracol Radio, it was established that the pseudonym “Peter” had been acting at the head of the territory since 2020 and “would be responsible for ordering the commission of homicides. in the municipalities of Cereté, San Pelayo, San Carlos, Ciénaga de Oro and the rural area of ​​Montería ”.
