Uruguay to allow entry without quarantine to fully vaccinated foreigners with negative PCR

The Uruguayan government announced on Wednesday that All those who will have a negative PCR test and a complete vaccination against the coronavirus will be able to enter the country – in addition to the passage of 15 days from the reception of the last dose – instead of complying with a mandatory quarantine, as has been the case until now.

Until now, foreigners who wanted to enter the country had to present a negative PCR test for the coronavirus, carried out up to 72 hours before the start of the trip, a sworn statement showing the absence of symptoms and contact with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID – 19, and the preventive quarantine seven days, which is the requirement that will no longer be in effect from that point on.

Last week, Luis Lacalle Pou’s government announced that It would extend COVID-19 infection prevention measures until May 23, due to the high number of infections and deaths.

Although no new restrictions are added, It is only from this date that it will be assessed whether certain activities are released. According to the government, The main objective of the measures is to “reduce mobility” in order to contain the spread of COVID-19, due to the complexity of the health situation in the country.

Tuesday, Uruguay recorded 3,128 new cases of covid-19 once treated and 57 deaths, according to the daily report released by the National Emergency System (Sinae). In this way, the country now adds 246,026 cases of contagion since the start of the pandemic, of which 27,870 are people studying the disease, 498 of them admitted to intensive treatment centers (CSI) and 3,578 are deceased.

According to the daily report presented by the Uruguayan Society of Intensive Medicine, to 78.4% of the 1,016 beds in the aforementioned centers are occupied and 52.1% of them are due to cases of coronavirus.

Regarding vaccination, 1,444,242 people were inoculated with the first dose of Chinese pharmaceutical companies Sinovac, the Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca and the American Pfizer, and 954,358 with the second from Pfizer or Sinovac. This assumes that the 41.19% of the population receives the first dose and 27.22% the second.

This Saturday they arrived in Uruguay 119,340 doses of Pfizer and the second batch of vaccines that the country receives through the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO) has also arrived, with 50,400 doses of AstraZeneca, while the secretary of the presidency of the country, Álvaro Delgado, has reported that on May 28, 550,000 doses of CoronaVac will arrive.
