Pride: 14 Argentinian wines won gold medals in a prestigious international competition

One more time, Argentinian wine was recognized for its quality around the world. In the contest International Wine Challenge (IWC), 14 labels from our country were awarded gold medals and 87 others, silver. With these awards, Argentina was placed in the sixth place in the standings for the number of awards received, after competing with 49 other countries who offered their best wines.

The event took place at London, United Kingdom. It was the 38th edition of the prestigious competition which rewards the best vineyards in the world. The winners have a peculiarity: except in one case where a Patagonian wine was distinguished, all the other gold medals were for reds made in the province of Mendoza.

The selection process seeks to be as impartial as possible. For it, each wine is tasted blind by a group of specialists who work under the direction of prestigious British critic Tim Atkin. Throughout the month of April, the experts devoted themselves to tasting and qualifying the different wines. with scores between 0 and 100, divided into categories corresponding to the geographical area and style, although without making any distinction between their prices. Wines scoring above 95 won the gold medal, while those scoring between 90 and 95 points received the silver medal.

The Argentinian wine that received the best score (96 points) at IWC it was Large Alta Yari field 2019, of Bodegas Fabre, a specimen that not available on the local market. Below, with 95 points, 13 labels were recognized; some are marketed in our country for a suggested value between 570 and 4900 pesos.
