Iranian director was dismembered by his parents for being single

Iranian director Babak Khorramdin, who had lived in London for years, was murdered by his parents after a heated argument over his single status after returning to his home country.

Khorramdin had returned to Ecbatana -a city close to Tehran, her birthplace – a few days ago to visit relatives on vacation. The body was found last Sunday in the same city, in trash bags and a suitcase.

The filmmaker was 47, who made short films like Slot Yes Hole, fell asleep after discussing his situation, and it was there that his parents anesthetized, stabbed and dismembered him.

Khorramdin he is the author of a self-referential work. Two of his shorts, Slot Yes Oath to YashaThey focus on their experience away from the Iranian regime. In 2010, a year after graduating in cinema from the Tehran University, moved to London.

The parents have been arrested and investigations are continuing to find out exactly what has happened so far. According to ABC, the investigation is still open, even if the father has already admitted the crime before the Tehran Criminal Court. In addition, they reveal that the parents also allegedly confessed to murdering their son-in-law and daughter years ago.

These types of killings are part of a well-established domestic violence in Iran, known as honor killings. In 2020, a law on child protection was passed but it is still insufficient. Honor killing is the murder of a person by one or more members of his family, because of the belief that the victim has discredited his family because of his sexual, social or religious behavior.

In statements to Daily mail, Jason Brodsky, editor-in-chief of Iran International TV, criticized the international community for becoming more involved in “honor killings and domestic violence”: “A few days ago, a family murdered one of its members when they discovered he was gay. And a year ago, a 14-year-old girl was beheaded by her father. Khorramdin’s horrific death is just the latest example of a long pattern of domestic violence in our country, ”he said.
