Vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna and J&J promise 3.5 billion doses to poor countries

ROMA.- Manufacturers of vaccines against Covid-19 Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are committed this Friday, at a world health summit that joined the G-20 (which includes Argentina), give 3.5 billion doses to the poorest and most disadvantaged countries between 2021 and 2022. As they explained, this year around 1300 million doses will be provided and in 2022 the rest.

Low-income countries will be able to buy them at cost and middle-income countries at a reduced price. the heads of the laboratories specified during a virtual summit organized by Italy – which holds the presidency of the G-20 – and the European Commission.

Shortly before, the European Union (EU) announced at the opening of this summit that it would provide 100 million doses. “Europe intends to deliver at least 100 million doses to low and middle income countries by the end of 2021,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández today told the Virtual Health World Summit in Rome that “it is fundamental to guarantee equitable and inclusive access to vaccines and drugs”. According to the president, there is “a disproportionately negative impact on developing countries and the most vulnerable populations” from the “serious health, economic and social consequences” caused by the pandemic.
