Well, on March 19, the capital police and ministerial officials executed a search warrant on property in the Street closed on September 15, Palmilla district from the same mayor’s office located in southern Mexico City.

The seizure at that time was 10 packages containing marijuana weighing approximately 50 kilograms each; that is to say, half ton. 124 doses of the same herb, a long gun and two scales were also seized.

This site was supposed to be used as narcobodega for suspected members of a criminal group who have send the drug overland to Nayarit.

After some intelligence work, it was possible to identify that the couple came to the house searched on several occasions, because they used it as narcotics storage and packaging site for later distribution.

With the evidence obtained, the public prosecutor assigned to the General Coordination of High Impact Crimes, requested the search warrant which was granted by a judge.

Unofficial data had indicated that documents from a suspected member of the Navy Secretariat were on the site.

According to the RIA Institute, which studies drug policy in Mexico, the production of marijuana in this country varies between 15 thousand and 27 thousand tons per year.

The cultivated area is about 114 thousand hectares, 72% of which are located in the region known as the Golden Triangle, between the states of Sinaloa, Chihuahua and Durango, an area almost dominated by Sinaloa Cartel.

So far in 2021, the federal authorities have seized just over 76 tons of narcotics in the country, of which 14,333 kilograms were seized between April 21 and May 20 of this year.

According to a report presented by Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, head of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the Mexican state has also deployed 6,859 troops to eradicate 5,663 hectares of poppies and 375 hectares of marijuana.

Until May 20 of this year, authorities seized 44 thousand 57 kilos of marijuana, including 9,993 since April 21.

According to reports from Sedena, in 2020, the eradication of marijuana plantations only increased by 0.2% compared to the previous year. Out of 2,801 hectares destroyed in 2019, the number rose to 2,807 last year.

The production cycle of this plant grows between January and May, then August to November.
