Uruguay has already vaccinated more than a million people with the second dose against COVID-19

Uruguay surpassed the million vaccinated on Saturday with the second dose of Pfizer and CoronaVac vaccines against covid-19.

As observed in the monitor developed by the Ministry of Public Health, at 11:26 local time (14:26 GMT), 1,003,048 people have already been vaccinated with vaccines from American and Chinese laboratories, a figure equivalent to 28.34% of the population.

The figure was celebrated by the South American country’s Minister of Public Health Daniel Salinas, who shared a post on his Twitter account: “# 1 million second doses completed. We go with everything for 70% of the vaccinated population, which is our minimum target. We need … keep going! “.

On the other hand, 746,734 people have already received the first dose of CoronaVac, Pfizer or Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccines and are waiting for the second.

In this way, 49.53% of the population already have two or at least one of the doses needed to complete the vaccination against the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

In January, the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, announced the acquisition by Uruguay of nearly 3.8 million doses from Pfizer and Sinovac laboratories. He also added that his country had reserved 1.5 million doses for the Covax platform, created by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Two months later, President reported Uruguay negotiating purchase of additional 1.25 million vaccines from Sinovac, which ended up being around 1.5 million.

About a million of them arrived in Montevideo on May 8, while the other 550,000 will arrive this Saturday.

This Friday, Uruguay added 1,847 new cases after processing 10,658 tests. He also added 52 deaths from covid-19, as indicated in the daily report issued by the National Emergency System (Sinae), which also warned of a computer error that made it impossible to count all the analyzes carried out.

With the known information, the South American country adds 282,198 cases with a diagnosis of coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, of which 35,419 are people who are studying the disease, 542 of them are admitted to intensive treatment centers (CTI ) and 4.118 are the deceased.
