Rapper gang issues lead to incidents of gun violence in Miami

There are still few details on what made the long weekend this past one of Miami-Dade County’s most violent in memory. In a region characterized by the low number of violent incidents compared to other urban areas of the country, there were seven incidents of firearms between Thursday and Monday evening. Four people died and at least 24 were injured, all with guns.

But what is most striking is that at least two of these incidents involve members of the hip hop arts community.

Today Tuesday it was confirmed that Miami Beach police are questioning the rapper DaBaby in regards to to the shooting that took place around midnight last night at South Point, the most luxurious district of Miami Beach.

Around the 23:37 Mondaygunfire was heard on Ocean Drive Avenue, off 1st Street, in front of one of Miami Beach’s most famous and luxurious restaurants, the Prime 112 Steakhouse. There were two injured in the incident and at least one of them remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Police have confirmed that 29-year-old Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, known to the art world as DaBaby, was one of several interviewees to clarify the facts. Although there are still no formal arrests for the event, several suspects are in custody. It is not known whether DaBaby has suspect or witness status.

“Detectives are following several leads in connection with last night’s shooting near First Street and Ocean Drive. So far, no arrests have been made.
