At least a person died in the collapse of a building twelve floors in the Surfside community, Miami, in the state of Florida. Firefighters rescued several people and they investigate if there are more victims among the rubble.

According to local media, the event was recorded in the Champlain towers building, located at 8777 Collins Avenue, very close to Miami Beach, around one in the morning.

A witness informed Fox News that at the time of the collapse it was “like an earthquake”, while others described hearing a loud crash at the time of the collapse.

The Miami Dade Fire Department is still working on the site removing debris to search for any that may have been entombed by the collapse of construction of nearly 100 apartments.

In front of this situation, the police blocked the nearby roads and dozens of fire and rescue vehicles, ambulances and police cars flooded the area.

“We’re on the scene so he’s still very active,” Miami Dade Fire Sgt. Marian Cruz told local media, noting, “What I can tell you is the building has twelve floors. The whole back of the building collapsed“.
