A car hit a crowd in a pedestrian area in Marbella: there are several injured

Moments after the incident, which left at least several injured.

A vehicle hit a pedestrian zone full of cafes and restaurants on Monday in the Spanish city of Marbella, injuring at least 8 people, some seriously.

A police spokeswoman said the driver of the vehicle has been arrested and that the police were investigating the event.

Videos of the episode posted to social media show ambulances and police in the area as porters help the bloody people or they clear the debris after the collision with the sidewalk where there are two bars.

People screaming, ambulance and police sirens, insults to the driver, people trying to help, others filming the event. In the midst of this confused panorama, the emergency services had to act: the local and national police and the health services, which moved several emergency units of the SAS and an intensive care unit of 061 to the area.

The event happened in the middle of the afternoon – around 3:30 p.m. – in the tourist center of the Costa del Sol (Malaga), when the area was full of people having lunch. Specifically, the bar is on a street called Miguel Cano avenue, near where tourists start the tours of Marbella in horse-drawn carriages.

The newspaper Spanish indicated that the driver is a young man in his thirties who was in the car – a white Suzuki – with his parents, that he had his papers in order and that the police did not consider the accident to be related to the terrorism.

Apparently the driver gave negative on alcohol and drug tests. Some reports suggest the young man suffers from mental health issues and resisted the capture, which his parents also did.

Local police reported that five people had been transferred to hospital on the Costa del Sol, one of them is a seriously injured woman.

José Eduardo Díaz, Citizen Security Advisor for Marbella, indicated that the necessary tests are underway on all the protagonists and witnesses of the episode to find out what may have happened.
