A carnival without floats and a family atmosphere: the LGBTTTI + Marche des Fiertés in CDMX

After the suspension in 2020 for health reasons, the LGBTTI + walking, better known as “Gay pride”, this year thousands of people gathered this Saturday noon in the heart of the Mexico in order to claim your rights and celebrate between multicolored flags, make-up and music, the sexual freedom.

Although in this XLIII edition around 30,000 people participated, according to local authorities, this is a much lower inflow in the pre-pandemic period of COVID-19, since in 2019, more than 100,000 Mexican men and women participated.

And this time to “avoid more infections”, the advertising brands have decided not to participate with trucks and tanks. However, it was not necessary for the assistants to assemble a big carnival on Paseo de la Reforma and the historic center.

A first contingent of around 600 people, made up of both young people, older adults and children, left around 11:50 a.m.the Angel of Independence towards the Zócalo plaque; while the second left minutes after 12:00, because there was two calls on social networks.

During the journey, the Citizen Security Secretariat (CSS) the capital has set up a road agent with cuts to traffic so that it is not affected in its entirety. There was even a Metrobús service, in the direction of Campo Marte.

The visit took place in absolute calm, between jumping, shouting, drumming, waving flags, as well as selling food and drink, including alcoholic beverages. It should be mentioned that although many face masks have been used, most didn’t and I don’t respect healthy distancing. In this regard, elements of the government of the capital invited with speakers to those who attend monitor health measures.

The members wore banners in which it is written: “Love is not a crime, your homophobia is”, “All rights for all”, “Love is love. People should do what makes them happy.”

In others, messages such as: “I’m a mom and I’m proud of my gay son”; “Do not discriminate against us”; Love is love “;” Transfemicides are state crimes.

Rosario and Rebeca are a couple of lesbian parents and today they have decided to go for a walk with their little girl to teach society that “there are different families”. “I love my daughter, and I want her to support the whole group when she grows up, we are a beautiful family”, expressed Rosario in an interview for Milenio TV.

On one platform, the different organizations made their positioning where they demanded plurality, the creation of shelters, the end of violence against this sector, equal treatment and recognition of their sexuality, as well as equal marriage throughout the country.

After 5:00 p.m. the event ended in the Plaza de la Constitución and the participants dispersed to various areas of the historic center and Reforma, especially to eat.

For their part, the authorities reported no serious incidents were reported and there was a white balance.
