A ferry hits a whale in Japan: 87 wounded

At least 87 people were injured this Saturday as a result of a collision between a hydrofoil and a whale in the Sado Island region of Japan.

This was reported by the Japanese Coast Guard. According to the coastguards, five of the wounded are hospitalized with a serious prognosis, but all are aware.

How was it

The incident occurred around 12:15 this Saturday, while the ship was making a connection between the city of Niigata, on the island of Honsu, the main island of the Japanese archipelago, and the island of Sado with 121 people on board.

An hour after the impact with the cetacean, the boat resumed its journey and the wounded were taken to the hospital.

Subsequent examination of the ship revealed a 15 centimeter crack at the rear and damage to the hydrofoil.
