The king of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn, surprised everyone by announcing his marriage a few days before his coronation. On Wednesday night, her marriage to her old emotional partner and 40-year-old bodyguard, Suthida Tidjai, became official during a ceremony that made her talk.

This is the fourth wife of Vajiralongkorn, who has 7 children of their different husbands. His former general is now Queen Suthida. The ceremony was held at the Royal Palace of Dusit in Bangkok. According to the television footage, the king wore a white uniform, while Suthida wore a traditional Thai silk dress.

Ascending to the rank of general in 2016, relations between the ruler and his wife had caused a sensation. After the affair, he will enjoy – like the rest of the royal family – the protection of the lèse-majestad law, which provides for sentences of three to fifteen years in prison for anyone who defames or insults the monarchy. His third wife, Srirasmi, with whom he secretly married in 2001, lost his royal title in 2014. Since then, several members of the plebeian family have been imprisoned for lèse-majesté crimes.
