A few seconds from death: the testimony of Erik, survivor of the accident on line 12 of the metro

Erik recorded a video of what happened and how he got out, amid accidents and chaos. In the footage he recorded, children are also seen, the cries of a baby carried by his mother and of a man traveling with his two daughters, aged around five and 10, are heard.Both were scared and the younger one was crying.

Although he knows that it could be he who was among the dead or injured since the fracture could have occurred in the car he was driving to, he considers himself lucky and is grateful to be alive.

“The truth is like a second chance and at the same time a great sadness for the people who have not returned home. Now I will always be in my arms and I will tell my loved ones how much I love them and i want to have all the experiences i can. You re-evaluate your life in this type of situation and it came to me at a key moment in my life, ”he reflected.

Faced with the shock of what happened and the fear that something else would happen, since until then we didn’t know what was going on, Erik managed to get out of the metro and returned home at home where, upon hearing the news, he realized the gravity of the affair.

“Only the police said to get out of the station, but there was no type of organization, the police were not trained for such situations. Hopefully justice will be served and the culprits pay for the lives their corruption has cost. And above all his human baseness, ”he concluded.

The accident left a preliminary toll of 24 dead and 78 injured, some of them minors, while others were transferred to hospitals, the capital’s mayor said, Claudia Sheinbaum, who gave a brief stage press conference.

Wearing a helmet and a face mask, the official added that the operations of the rescue corps were interrupted as a crane supported the remains of two wagons suspended from the structure, although there were no more people trapped. on site.

Sheinbaum announced that the city’s attorney general’s office would soon undertake an assessment of the site to determine the cause of the tragedy.

“Of course, all investigations will be carried out until we find out what the causes are, but for now we are dedicated to taking care of the injured.”, he asserted.

The metro line where the incident happened was built when the current Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard ruled the city (2006-2012), which lamented the tragedy. “My solidarity with the victims and their families.
