A man killed at least eight people in Indiana …

At least eight people were killed and several were injured in the American city of Indianapolis after a man with a gun started shooting point blank at a branch of a private postal company.

It is third such event to occur in this country so far this year, with a total balance of 22 people slaughtered.

This time, the shooting took place last night, around 11 p.m., inside a FedEx factory located near the Indianapolis International Airport. “I saw the guy with a machine gun or automatic rifle and he started shooting in the open. The eight dead were found on the premises of this company, said local police spokeswoman Genae Cook, who assured that the attacker committed suicide.

Several people with gunshot wounds were taken to hospital of the city, while investigators attempt to determine the causes of the case.

In a statement, the company said it was “aware of the tragic shooting that occurred at our plant near the Indianapolis airport,” but did not provide further details.

About 4000 people work there and it is presumed that all the victims were employees. Timothy Boillat, one of the witnesses said: “After hearing the shots, I saw a body on the ground”. “Fortunately I was quite far away and the striker didn’t see me,” he added.

This is not the first such event to occur in the United States this year and in the midst of a pandemic. On March 22, ten people were killed in a shooting at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado.

President Joe Biden this month announced six measures to contain the “epidemic” which he says is gun violence in the country. He presented a limited plan to prevent the spread of homemade weapons, which cannot be found if they are used in a crime.

He also proposed increase regulation for arm mounts designed to stabilize the weapon, a device used by the suspect during the Colorado shooting.

Biden said his proposals are just a starting point and called on Congress to legislate for measures such as control history and end the sale of assault rifles which are often the weapon used in mass shootings.
