A physicist from Balseiro was distinguished among the women of science

Physical Karen Hallberg, graduate and
professor of the Balseiro Institute, was distinguished by the award
L'Oréal-Unesco for Women in Science, on the occasion of the World Day of
the woman and the girl in science.

Yesterday, the five outstanding women in science for this international award and Argentina has been distinguished as a reference in Latin America.

Hallberg is currently working in the
group of condensed matter, in the Atomic Center of Bariloche, in addition
to teach at Balseiro and is a researcher at Conicet.

In a press release, the L & # 39; Oréal Foundation and UNESCO announced that the five women winners of this 21st edition of the contest were recognized "For the excellence of his research in the fields of materials science, mathematics and computer science"

"Each You will receive 100,000 euros and their achievements will be celebrated with those of 15 promising young scientists from around the world at a prize-giving ceremony on March 14, 2019 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, "the statement said.

Among the selection of 15 young people

According to the Balseiro Institute, Hallberg studies the quantum properties of condensed matter. In particular, he develops and applies computational methods for calculating the electronic and magnetic properties of nanoscopic materials and systems.

"What excites me the most about work
in these questions is that the behavior of the subject is very complex
and what we call emerging properties like for example the
superconductivity, insulating or metallic properties,
magnetism, which can not be predicted to know the properties of
