A raging fire consumes a thermal power station in Moscow

A major fire broke out in a thermal power plant near Moscow, with flames reaching 50 meters high, according to images broadcast on Russian television.

At least six people were injured in the fire, according to the regional office of the Ministry of Health, quoted by Russian agencies.

"The factory has reduced its electricity to zero, but there is no risk of cutting electricity for consumers, other reserve generators have been activated," said the Mosenergo operating company.

The fire started at 11 am (6 am in our country) in a gas pipeline powering the factory located in the premises, without causing damage to the facility, according to this source.

Fifty fire trucks were sent to fight the fire in the city of Chelobitievo, less than two kilometers from Moscow, announced on Twitter the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobiánin.

The thermal power station, operating on natural gas, supplies electricity and heating to the northern and northeastern parts of the Russian capital.

It is the most modern power plant that powers Moscow, built from 1987 to the 2000s.
