A region of Italy offers US $ 34,000 to young people who want to live there

Did you dream of living in an idyllic town in southern Italy and getting paid to do so? It can stop being a dream and become a reality.

The Calabria region plans to offer up to $ 34,000 until three years people who want to settle in quiet towns with few inhabitants.

The initiative aims to rejuvenate these cities and stop the decline of the population.

But the money they won’t give it to you. To get it, new residents must commit to starting a small business, either from scratch or by accepting pre-existing offers.

The requirements are almost non-existent: applicators must not be over 40 years old and they should be ready to move to Calabria within 90 days after your request has been approved.

Regional advisor Gianluca Gallo told CNN monthly income could be in the range of $ 1,000 to $ 1,200 for two to three years.

Not only that, they could reach a funding (unique) for the launch of a new commercial activity, be it a B&B, a restaurant, a bar, a rural farm or a shop.

“We’re fine-tuning the technical details, the exact monthly amount and duration of funds, and whether we’ll also include slightly larger cities with up to 3,000 residents,” Gallo told CNN.

Other life

Nicknamed “Income from active residence”, the project aims to energize Calabria. The project and the application process are expected to be launched online in the coming weeks. The region has been working on this for months and has already allocated over US $ 850,000 to the project.

Some 320 Calabrian towns currently have fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, raising fears that some communities will die entirely within a few years unless regeneration occurs.

Civita

It is located on a rocky cliff in the Pollino National Park. The locals speak a strange sounding Slavic dialect called Arbereshe. The community was founded in 1400 by Albanians fleeing the Turkish Empire. It has 1,000 inhabitants.

Samo and Precacore

Precacore was abandoned after the earthquakes and Samo was founded by the ancient Greeks who sought refuge in the hills but not too far from the coast, making the city their “port”.

Aieta

Founded on the ashes of a Greek colony, the town is close to the pleasant beaches of Maratea and Praia a Mare. There are Renaissance palaces. Eagles and wolves live in forests.

Bova

Legends say that an Armenian queen built this city on a hill where cows grazed, hence the name which refers to the term “cattle” in Italian (bue).

Caccuuri

Olive groves dot the hills and produce premium extra virgin olive oil.

Albidona

Located at an altitude of 850 meters, it is close to the border with Basilicata and Puglia, and legend has it that it was founded by a blind diviner fleeing the fire of Troy.

Sant’Agata del Bianco

It dates back to Greek and Byzantine times. Fun attractions include the Wine Museum and the Rural “Lost and Found” Museum.

Saint Severine

This town sits on a cliff of volcanic tuff overlooking the Neto River. He is known for his oranges. The villagers are nicknamed Aranciaru, which means “orange eaters” in the local dialect.

San Donato di Ninea

It is considered to be one of the main wildlife reserves in Europe. It’s so remote and hidden in the hills that hardly anyone outside of Calabria knew it existed until the 1970s.
