It was like the boy from the next house, the friendly neighbor who nobody repairs.
But behind this innocuous facade hid "a methodical and systematic murderer of women," according to the prosecutor's office, which "monitored, secretly followed, spied and hunted" their victims to stab them for badual purposes.
The lawsuit of Michael Gargiulo, a 43-year-old air conditioning technician accused of two deaths and an badbadination attempt, began Friday in Los Angeles, California, according to the Associated Press news agency. .
According to the prosecution, Gargiulo is the hijacker of Hollywood: he seduced his victims by offering his help when something broke in their home, looking charming.
Among his alleged victims is the former girlfriend of Ashton Kutcher, a 22-year-old girl named Ashley Ellerin, who was found dead on February 22, 2001 at her home in Hollywood Hills.
The actor, who could be called to testify, then badured the police that he had gone in search of the young woman, model and fashion student, to go to an evening after the handing over of the Grammy price of music, but had not reacted to the request. door
Kutcher looked out the back window and saw what looked like wine stains on the carpet. His BMW car was parked at the door, so he decided to leave, thinking that he might have decided to refuse it.
The body was found by a girl friend the next day with 47 stab wounds.
According to the defense attorney, however, there is not a single piece of evidence linking this crime to the accused.
Maria Bruno, a 32-year-old girl with four children, was stabbed at her El Monte apartment, in the suburbs of Los Angeles, in 2005. The murderer cut her bads.
A third victim, Michelle Murphy, survived a stabbing attack at her apartment in Santa Monica in 2008. The accused was reportedly cut off during the attack, leaving behind remnants of her DNA that would have allowed him to identify it.
On all three occasions, Gargiulo had lived near the attacked women.
Gargiulo is also charged with the death of Tricia Pacaccio, an 18-year-old girl living in Glenview, a Chicago area municipality. On August 14, 1993, her father found her stabbed in front of the door of the house, the key in hand.
Gargiulo was then 17 years old and was the friend of the victim's brother. Many years later, in 2003, the police found traces of DNA on the girl's nails that matched the accused, but she fled.
"For almost 15 years, Michael Gargiulo watched, watched all the time," said prosecutor Daniel Akemon, "and his hobby was to plan an ideal opportunity to attack women with a knife in his house or in the vicinity ".
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two murders and attempted murder for which he is being tried in California.
If he is found guilty, he could spend the rest of his life in jail.
"All the victims were young and extroverted women," said the prosecutor, "all the badaults took place at night, all the victims were stabbed several times, were all stabbed, attacked at home or near their home, and in the vicinity of Gargiulo. "
