At least five people died and another is missing after a heavy rain and wind storm hit the city of Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday night. As reported by the news site G1, the mayor said "the state of crisis".
In the western part of the Fluminense capital, two people died and two others were injured after a house collapse, while in Rocinha, the biggest favela of the city, a person dead in an avalanche. A fourth person died in the Vidigal neighborhood and another on Niemeyer Avenue.
According to the Brazilian authorities, in four hours, the expected rain fell throughout the month of February. The storm, with winds exceeding one hundred kilometers per hour in Copacabana, provoked floods, power outages and landslides in several neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to fall of more than 120 trees.
