A group of tourists were surprised on Tuesday by an avalanche that broke out in the Uinta Mountains ski resort in Utah, United States. The victims of this phenomenon traveled by snowmobile and filmed the landscape when, after being struck by an avalanche, they were buried for a few minutes, until they could be rescued.
Two members of the group managed to avoid the impact of the snow, while the others were partially or fully covered. However, one of them was hit while recording the avalanche with his cell phone.
In the video, you can see how the snow begins to fall towards where the tourists are, until the image is pixelated and completely dark when the person has been covered by the avalanche.
Later, a person is seen digging in the snow to remove his companion buried by a huge amount of snow.
The incident happened this Saturday, the same day, another avalanche left four dead and four survivors in the Salt Lake City Valley, some 300 kilometers further west.
Also, the four skiers killed this Saturday were part of a group of eight experienced skiers in their 20s and 30s, who played the sport in groups of five and three, said the Utah Unified Police Department sgt. The deceased has been identified as Sarah Moughamian, 29; Louis Holian, 26; Stephanie Hopkins, 26; and Thomas Louis Steinbrecher, 23 years old. All are from the Salt Lake City area.
Police in that state noted that the snow cover was “Spinning near its breaking point for a while” and rated as “Misleading” under safe conditions, even for experienced skiers. “It doesn’t get any safer at the moment. It is becoming more and more dangerous, ”the authorities said.
