A vegan woman has decided to take her neighbors to the Supreme Court because of the smell of meat and fish that she releases. The woman, who lives in Girraween, north of Perth, Australia, said her life was calm until they decided to install a barbecue in her garden.

While the court rejected her claim, Cilla Carden announced that he would take further legal action. Indeed, he is not only complaining about the smell of barbecues, but also cigarette smoke, light and noise from his neighbors' children.

According to statements that the vegan woman made to Nine News Perth, the ongoing conflict stole her quality of life.

"They put it there (on the grill) so it smells like fish, all I can smell is fish," he said. "I can not enjoy my yard, I can not go out," added Carden.

The woman who complained

The complaint filed by Carden began in 2017. Since then, he has initiated a lawsuit, but the court decided to dismiss it in August 2019.

"Carden was given the opportunity to present her case, and the court members conducted the proceedings in a fair and appropriate manner," said Supreme President Peter Quinlan.

He also encouraged neighbors to "steer their actions towards resolving their differences as best as they can".

Residents close to the vegan woman added to Nine News that it was not the first time she filed such a complaint. Although he has not yet reached the courts, one of the neighbors had already removed his barbecue and banned his children from playing basketball in the garden for that reason.

"It has been shown that Ms. Carden's claims were unreasonable and impaired the ability of other property owners to enjoy their land in an acceptable manner," said another of the neighbors.
