A violent solar storm arrives and an energy current will hit the Earth – 14/05/2019

As warned the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC, by its acronym) of the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), a Severe solar storm will hit the Earth in those days and could have consequences on satellites and communications.

Scientists at this institution issued geomagnetic storm alerts G1 and G2 (moderated) for May 16 because of a monstrous Coronal mbad ejection (CME) or a large amount of hot gas known as plasma, released by the star of our system, which should affect from tomorrow and until Friday. Although there is no certainty as to exactly when it will hit, 15 and 16 are the most likely.

The SWPC explained that a geomagnetic storm is a major disturbance of the terrestrial magnetosphere, which occurs when there is a highly efficient exchange of solar wind energy in the space environment that surrounds our planet.

"These storms are the result of variations in the solar wind that produce large changes in the currents, plasmas and fields of the Earth's magnetosphere."They felt that this could affect satellites and therefore threaten telecommunications.

It is also known that minor geomagnetic storms confuse migratory animals that depend on the Earth's magnetic field for navigation. On the other hand, the phenomenon known as northern Lights they could extend beyond the Arctic Circle and be seen from places like New York, for example.
