Vladimir Putin (68), president of the Russian Federation for nearly 17 of the past 21 years, is said to have Parkinson’s disease and could step down from office next year, according to The Sun and Corriere Della Sera newspapers.

According to the English newspaper, sources close to the president said members of his family urged him to prioritize health over his political aspirations and step down from the presidency in 2021.

Valery Solovei, former head of the public relations department of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, suggested that Putin suffers from a neurodegenerative disease and that the person who insists he quits the presidency the most is Alina Kabaeva (37), the president’s partner.

Solovei, who has repeatedly criticized the Kremlin, said: “There is a family that has a great influence on him. Putin intends to make his delivery plans public in January. “In addition, he assured that Putin himself would be the one to appoint his successor.

Parkinson’s disease affects the connection of neurons with the muscles of the body, so that the patient makes uncontrolled movements. Observers who analyzed Putin’s public appearances in recent months noted that he frequently tried to hide his hands and his legs appeared to be in constant motion. Also, they pointed out that the president’s face seems to show pain every time he sits. Another symptom that suggests you might have Parkinson’s disease is twitching of the fingers.

This week, the State Duma (the Russian legislature) began drafting two bills: one would make Putin a life senator once he resigned, granting him parliamentary immunity; the other would guarantee his immunity not only for acts committed during his tenure, but also as a citizen and ex-spy.

This Friday, the Kremlin denied the English newspaper. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman and deputy chief of staff, said Putin was in “excellent health”, saying the rumors about the disease “were totally absurd” and replied that the president “did not intend to to resign”.
