An Afghan guard was killed at Kabul airport on Monday in a shootout with unidentified people. In which German and American soldiers also participated, the German army reported on its Twitter account.

“This morning at 4:13 am there was an exchange of gunfire between Afghan guards and unknown assailants at the north gate of Kabul airport.”the military tweet said.

“An Afghan guard was killed, three others were wounded”, he clarified.

German and American soldiers participated in “other subsequent shootings”, but no German soldiers were injured, he added.

Kabul airport is experiencing scenes of chaos, as tens of thousands of people, foreigners and Afghans, have sought to flee the country since the Taliban took control of the capital more than a week ago.

The German army has so far evacuated more than 2,500 people on military planes.

The Bundeswehr has confirmed that all of its soldiers came out unscathed from the confrontation in which US troops also participated.

Evacuation flights have been leaving Kabul airport for a week, with which Western states are trying to expel their Afghan nationals and collaborators from the country after the seizure of power by the Taliban.

The UK has evacuated 5,725 people from Afghanistan since August 13, including 3,100 Afghan nationals. the Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

This rescue operation is supported by 1,000 British soldiers, including paratroopers from the 16th Air Assault Brigade, as well as officials from the Home Office.

The ministry also indicated that the Minister of Defense, Ben Wallace, had a phone conversation with his American colleague, Lloyd Austin, to discuss allied efforts to evacuate people at the Kabul airport.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will chair a virtual meeting of the Group of 7 (G7, richest countries in the world) to address the crisis in Afghanistan.

According to British media, Johnson is hoping to ask US President Joe Biden to extend the date of withdrawal from Afghanistan – August 31 – in order to continue the flights to evacuate as many people as possible.

British authorities yesterday reported that seven Afghan civilians have died as a result of the chaotic situation outside Kabul airport, where thousands are trying to gain access to the terminal.
