The Venezuelan opposition reiterated its call on the UN to send a mission in the state of Apure, bordering Colombia, after a new confrontation between the army of the Caribbean country and a Colombian armed group, identified by certain associations as FARC dissidents, in which several men in uniform died.

The Venezuelan Armed Forces (FANB), after recording several casualties in recent hours, has deployed more troops to the region, according to FANB strategic operational commander Remigio Ceballos.

Monday, said there were several dead and wounded in their ranks, but did not specify the number of victims or identify the deceased.

Given the escalating clashes, which began on March 21, the opposition called for the intervention of the UN and “other international bodies in the field of human rights, to make a presence in Venezuela”, while condemning the deaths of soldiers, for which Nicolás Maduro and the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, are blamed.

The opposition group led by Juan Guaidó also suggested: “the implementation of a border state policy so that fellow citizens feel safe in their territory”, After some 6,000 inhabitants of the combat zone have fled to Colombia since the start of the clashes.

No local, official or Venezuelan military source had reported the displacement until, in early April, the vice-president of communications, Freddy Ñáñez, assured that the return of Venezuelan citizens had started, without providing information. on their flight.

At the petition launched by the opposition to the UN, Several NGOs present in the area and which provide information via their social networks have joined, in the absence of data from the authorities, who reported, on April 5, the death of eight soldiers and nine “terrorists” in the clashes.

Since then, they have not specified figures on the losses recorded on either side.
