After the first half of the all-star game, Mikolas tries to pick up where he stopped against the Cubs

CHICAGO – The first place in the Chicago Cubs has often resembled a game of musical chairs this season.

But as hot as first-baseman Anthony Rizzo was the late head hitter, manager Joe Maddon might have trouble moving Rizzo.

Before the break of the star game, Maddon thinks of such a gesture.

"I was just thinking about it, and I thought there was no reason to change right now," Maddon told reporters, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Rizzo, who has been hot since he came out of a 0-by-19 subsidence, went 4 for 5 in the last drink of a double Saturday program as the Cubs separated with the rivals of St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cubs and Cardinals shared the first four games of the five-game series that ends Sunday at Wrigley Field. With Rizzo staying warm at the top, the Cubs have followed suit and won five of their last seven games.

"Right now, (Rizzo) has a lot of fun with that," Maddon said. "He's fine, and we're fine with that too."

Jose Quintana (8-6, 3.96 ERA) will try to keep the Cubs rolling while he's closing the series. He has won his last two starts and has not let three hits in six innings of his last game against the San Francisco Giants. Quintana is 3-2 with a 2.81 ERA in six career starts against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals rallied to victory in Saturday's final game with a 6-3 win after scoring three points in the ninth inning. St. Louis took part in the split one day when Matt Carpenter played his fifth and sixth straight games to set a Cardinals season record.

Carpenter did not start the nightcap on Saturday, but managed his first batting match to allow St. Louis to run in the seventh inning to start the rally, which they ended in the ninth.

The Cubs won the first game 7-2 against a failed St. Louis paddock.

Star player Mikolas will be looking to pick up where he left off before the All-Star break after scoring a 10-3 record and a 2.79 ERA in the first half.

Mikolas has won three of his last four starts and made a decision without a decision in his last outing against the Cincinnati Reds when he allowed three runs in six innings. Mikolas is 1-0 with three career appearances (a start) against the Cubs.

While Mikolas hopes to continue to roll, the rotation of the Cardinals took a hit when Carlos Martinez was placed on the 10-day handicap list with a right oblique tension. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Saturday that the extent of Martinez's injury will be determined as he rests.

Martinez received a local anti-inflammatory shot Friday, told reporters General Manager Michael Girsch. According to the Post-Dispatch, Martinez will continue to travel with the team, but if the region does not respond to treatment, he may be forced to undergo an MRI.

"I try to take care of myself, trying not to hurt myself for a long time," Martinez said Saturday, according to the Post-Dispatch. "It's hard for me because I want to compete, I want to help and help my team."
