After worst week of covid-19 deaths in Brazil, there were huge underground carnival parties in Rio de Janeiro

For the fifth consecutive night this carnival weekend, underground parties and crowds of people without masks were recorded in different areas of Rio de Janeiro, despite the city’s efforts to try to prevent these events where there are crowds.

Many parties lasted early in the morning and they continued the next morning, as it happened on Tuesday.

One of them took place in a restaurant-club at the top of the Morro do Vidigal, in the south zone, according to the local portal G1. At 6:30 a.m., hundreds of people were still huddled on different dance floors.

Since the beginning of the year, these spaces have been banned by the city of Rio, and nightclubs can only work with seated clients. Vaccination campaign suspended due to lack of vaccines

Rio de Janeiro will temporarily suspend its vaccination campaign from this Wednesday due to lack of vaccines, announced on Monday the mayor of the second largest city in Brazil, Eduardo Paes.

The most emblematic city of the country thus becomes in the first to officially confirm the interruption of vaccination due to lack of antidotes, something that some regional and municipal governments have been threatening for days.

The suspension of the vaccination campaign comes at a time when Brazil faces second wave of most virulent pandemic and in that the average of deaths over the last fourteen days remains above 1,050 per day for the seventh consecutive day, which did not occur even at the peak of the first wave.

Brazil began its vaccination campaign on January 18 with 10 million vaccines from Sinovac pharmaceuticals imported from China and 2 million additional doses from the AstraZeneca laboratory imported from India.

With the available doses, Brazil has vaccinated just over 5 million people to date (taking into account the fact that there are two doses per immune), i.e. the equivalent of 2% of its population.

All the available doses have been distributed and the municipalities are now waiting for the public laboratories Fiocruz and Butantan to start distributing the new batches of vaccines that they package with the raw material imported from China and India.
