The Ever Given, the mega-ship that blocked the Suez Canal for almost a week in March, will be able to sail again from next week.
The shipowners and their insurers announced this Sunday an agreement in the legal dispute on the costs generated by the blockade. The authority of Suez Canal (SCA) has announced that the ship will be able to sail again on July 7.
The SCA, which has filed a complaint demanding financial compensation for the costs of the blockade, has kept the mega-ship and its crew stranded in a lake between two sectors of the canal since March 29.
That day, the ship was stranded on the track it blocked for almost a week, disrupting much of world trade.
Strong winds are believed to have been one of the causes of the Channel’s width vessel crossing.
“Preparations will be made for their release and there will be a ceremony to celebrate the agreement at SCA’s headquarters in Ismailia,” said Faz Peermohamed, of the Stann Marine company, who represents the ship’s Japanese owner, Shoei Kisen, in a statement. . and their insurers.
Wednesday July 7 will be the ceremony during which Ever Given can once again be seen going to sea and leaving the Canal.
Neither the SCA nor Stann Marine gave details of the deal.
The SCA had asserted US $ 916 million to offset unlock costs, reputation damage, and lost revenue, but then lowered the figure to US $ 550 million.
Shoei Kisen and the insurers challenged the claim and the vessel’s arrest in an Egyptian court.
