Aguililla: the indomitable territory of "El Mencho" in Tierra Caliente, Michoacán

Aguililla is one of the 113 municipalities making up the state of Michoacán. It is located in the southwest of the state and about 290 kilometers southwest of the city of Morelia.

It's a region with a long history of drug trafficking, especially marijuana and poppy planting. From the 1990s, the production of synthetic drugs was also added, in charge of the cartel known as Los Valencia or del Milenio.

The organization, one of the first to use these substances, was one of the most powerful in the country.

"El Mencho" joined the cartel during these years and, with his brother-in-law, Abigael González Valencia, the Cuini, He inherited part of its structure at the end of the last decade.

From here, the criminal group had an alliance with the Sinaloa cartel, which Split in 2010 after the death of one of its founders, Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel. From that moment, the CJNG was born.

In recent months, The confrontation between the criminal groups of the cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and Los Viagra has intensified in different municipalities of Michoacán.
