Alan García's letter before committing suicide: I leave my corpse as a sign of contempt for my opponents

In the letter, the former leader of the Revolutionary People's Alliance of America (APRA) party explains the reasons for his decision and makes reference to his family and his political opponents.

His daughter Luciana García was responsible for sharing these last words in which the former president reveals that he was already firm in his fatal decision.

The epistle begins with García referring to his role as politician and member of aprismo.

"I have fulfilled the mission of leading the Aprismo to power twice and we are again promoting its social strength.I think it was the mission of my existence, rooted in the blood of this movement, "says the text.

"Because of this and because of the setbacks of power, our opponents opted for the strategy of criminalizing me for over 30 years, but they never found anything and I defeated them again because they did not will never find that their speculations and their frustrations ", keep on going.

He then explained how "in this period of repeated rumors and hatreds" he could see how "procedures are used to humiliate, vex and find no truth".

Alan García goes on to say that he stood "above insults" for many years and stressed that "the homage of my enemies was to argue that Alan García was very clever to not not be able to prove his slanders ".

"I've seen others handcuffed showing their miseries, but Alan García does not have to endure more injustices"he adds.

Finally, he points out that he leaves his corpse "as a sign of my contempt for my adversaries, because I have already fulfilled the mission I have badigned myself".

The coffin containing the mortal remains of the former president is transferred amidst the fervor of its adherents from the Casa del Pueblo to the Mapfre crematorium of Huachipa, where they will arrive at noon.

Yesterday, Aprista party leader Omar Quesada said the remains would be cremated as a result of the family's decision, the newspaper El Comercio reported in its digital edition.

The coffin containing the remains of Alan García was transferred last night (Wednesday) from Casimiro Ulloa Hospital, to Miraflores, to Casa del Pueblo, where they are veiled by the decision of his family.

During his funeral, he received no tribute from the state or government palace, a decision made by his own family and endorsed by the Apra leaders and his parliamentary caucus.

Garcia committed suicide on Wednesday morning just before the police and the deputy prosecutor of Lava Jato's special team, Henry Amenábar, did not arrest him on a preliminary basis for a period of ten days.
