The law was adopted by the deputies with 126 votes in favor, 110 against and four abstentions. In the Senate, the vote was 33 in favor, 27 against and 3 abstentions. The regulations have amended certain articles of the Civil Code such as "Rights in family relations", "Of conjugal society" and other articles.

The most important change is that of Article 172, which defines marriage between a man and a woman and is replaced by "contracting parties". He added: "This will have the same requirements and effects, whether the parties are of the same bad or of a different bad."
