During the 72nd edition of the British Academy Awards, BAFTA 2019, the film "Roma" was nominated for seven awards, four of which were won.
Better photography and a better non-English speaking film were the first prizes won. Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón also won the award for best director and best film.
The Mexican kissed when he took the stage with his fellow countryman and friend Salma Hayek, responsible for awarding the prize to the best director, before thanking them.
Cuarón acknowledged that I could not do much without the incredible performances of Mariana de Tavira and Yalitza Aparicio and he said that he felt "very excited" that the film had the reception that he had.
In the category of best photography, that Cuarón received, the film was imposed on "Bohemian Rapsody", "Cold War", "The Favorite" and "First Man".
British Academy of Cinematographic and Television Arts considered "Rome" as the best non-English speaking film. Thus won the Lebanese "Capernaum", the Polish "cold war", the Italian "Dogman" and the Japanese "shoplifters".
"Foreigner is only a different color and is complementary", said the filmmaker, while thanking the British Film Academy for the award.
In black and white and with long and wide shots, "Roma" tells the story of the childhood of Cuarón and his brothers in the neighborhood of the same name in Mexico City.
In the face of global recognition, "Roma" should also win the majority of his 10 Oscar nominations 2019, in which he would become the first Mexican film to win the Best Film Award.
