One year after the start of the health crisis due to COVID-19, Consulta Mitofsky presented the statute of the citizen approval of the leaders of Latin America and the world. In the ranking of American leaders, they considered 20 presidents or heads of state, while in the world ranking, there were politicians from Europe, Australia and Asia.
According to the results presented by Mitofsky, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele is the one who heads the “American Leader Ranking” with over 80% approval, which places it in the “Exceptional” category. Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic, also appeared in this category with 77% approval, as well as Alberto Lacalle Pou, President of Uruguay, who has 64% approval after having started in office since March 2020.
For its part, five politicians belonged to the “High” category, headed by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), whose approval percentage is 58%. Behind AMLOHe is followed by heads of government from Bolivia, the United States, Paraguay and Canada, with percentages ranging from 53% to 56%.
The other range in which Mitofsky cataloged citizen approval of presidents was “average,” where approval levels of 40% to 49% were taken into account.. In this category, Ivan Duque, President of Colombia already Juan Orlando Hernandez, which achieved a 45% approval rating in Honduras.
Nine state officials were included in the “Low” category, with approval percentages ranging from 20% to 30%. Likewise, Daniel Ortega, Laurentino Cortizo and Jair Bolsonaro were placed in the lower ranks of approval, with percentages of 37%, 36% and 31%, respectively. For their part, the leaders who obtained levels below 30% were: Alejandro Gimmattei, President of Guatemala with 27% approval, as well as Carlos Alvarado and Sebastián Piñera, which equaled the percentage with a figure of 24%.
Finally, in the “Very low” category, only two leaders appeared out of the 20 considered by the “Mitofsky Ranking of Presidents of America”.; Among them, the dictator Nicolás Maduro who obtained only 14% approval from Venezuelans and Lenín Moreno, who started his presidential term in Ecuador with a success of 66% and whose current approval reaches only 8% .
Mitofsky pointed out that “these types of evaluations are only a means of measuring the work done by each of the presidents or prime ministers and may or may not fully show the effectiveness and achievements of their administrations.“. He also underlined that, as part of his methodological strategy, compiled surveys published in the media of different countriesTherefore, “the percentage of approval recorded for each of the presidents is the exclusive property and responsibility of each of the polling stations that presented their results”.
The “Top 5 of the world leaders in the ranking” it was again led by Nayib Bukele, followed by Luis Abinader, Head of State of the Dominican Republic; Giussepe Conte, President of Italy; Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia and Vladimir Poutine, President of the Russian Federation.
