An American couple was found dead in a hotel in the Dominican Republic

Two American tourists were found dead in a hotel in the Dominican Republic. Neither of them presented "visible signs of violence", reported the national police.

According to the Efe news agency, the couple was found by members of the public prosecutor's office and the national police. The deceased were identified as Nathaniel Edward Holmes, 63; and Cynthia Ann Day, 49.

Their bodies were transferred to the unit of the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) of the province of San Pedro de Macorís (east) to conduct the autopsy, while the authorities have deepened the surveys.

Tourists stayed at the hotel, located between San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana, from May 25th. They had planned their stay until May 30th.

The note explains that investigations conducted so far establish that a cousin of Ann Day, who was staying at the hotel with the couple between the 28th and the 29th of this month, was unable to attend. 39; is returned to the hotel because she could not communicate by phone with relatives.

Once the authorities received the information on the case, they were transferred to the hotel to conduct the investigation on the place. So they entered the room where the couple lived and found several bottles of medicine.

A commission consisting of prosecutors and forensic doctors was transferred to the hotel with officers from the Police Investigations Division, the Crimes Against Persons Investigation Department and the Forensic Science Unit.

The prosecutor said that "he continues to conduct investigations to determine the actual circumstances in which this painful and unfortunate event unfolded.
