An Argentine invention against the main reason for flight delays

(Barcelona, special envoy). Several factors can affect flight delays: from weather conditions to services provided to the aircraft when it is on the ground. But there is one, the main (at least in the case of some airlines), which relates to the human factor and can be solved with the help of a solution based on the Internet of Things (IoT, in short). in English). It is the late arrival of the crew (pilots and flight attendants, such as hostesses).

According to a survey conducted by Aerolineas Argentinas a few years ago, the main reason for delays in departing flights was that the crew arrived late at the airport. And this happened because of the delays of the cars that were hired to handle the transfer of personnel.

Thus, the company decided to contact QuadMinds, an Argentinian start-up, to propose a solution allowing them to monitor and optimize the transfer service of their employees. QuadMinds specializes in platform generation to optimize logistical and process issues.

"We install sensors in the cars that transport the staff, so we control the time of arrival and the time it takes for each trip." We collect and process information at the same time. the algorithms we develop, "says Guillermo Castelli, CEO of QuadMinds. , a Infobae, at a meeting in Barcelona, where the MWC is held.

In this way, they were able to optimize the service. Now, cars leave with more time or avoid certain sections in which delays could be more important. At the same time, the crew receives the data from the vehicle on their mobile phone: they know in advance the route and the time at which it will arrive. And, as this information is updated automatically and in real time, they can know in advance if there is a disadvantage.

Thanks to this solution, IoT has managed to improve the efficiency of the transfer and has thus been able to solve one of the main problems related to delays: "today, the flights of the airlines have improved punctuality in 7 minutes, "said Castelli.

This solution, implemented three years ago in the airlines, is also used by Latam. And, according to the entrepreneur, they are already negotiating with other companies in the sector such as Copa, Air Europa and Azul.

Improvement of logistics with the help of IoT

QuadMinds, created by Argentines, already has 350 customers. He grew up with the help of accelerators, including Wayra, who propelled them with funding and advice.

"They connect us to the whole of the Spanish and Latin American ecosystem, which allows us to expand our international activities, which gives us advantages such as offices in the countries where they operate. operate, a data center, a network of contacts and training, "explains Castelli.

The company is working on several developments to optimize processes. Among the most notable are a development with YPF to predict, with the help of sensors, when service stations will run out of fuel.

"The sensors are placed in the tanks with fuels that fuel the service stations, which monitor the remaining quantity and inform the truck to arrive on time: because if it arrives sooner or later, it is a problem You can lose about $ 200,000 a month, which is why it is so important to arrive at the time, "Castelli sums it up.
