Rescuers are looking for several missing after an avalanche caused by heavy rains that resulted in several cars during the weekend in Bolivia. According to the authorities, there is at least 14 dead, seven missing and 50 wounded.

Research resumed this morning under a persistent drizzle. On Monday, they had suspended work a few hours before risk of new landslides. Police cut off traffic to prevent people from crossing the disaster area, as was the case on Sunday, when a second avalanche buried a person.

Several places in the Amazon region have been isolated. President Evo Morales has announced that a Hercules aircraft will evacuate the people of Caranavi and other populations whose authorities fear to be left empty of food and fuel.

Authorities declared on alert to 11 municipalities of the country who were the most punished by the storm. The weather service predicted more heavy rains in February due to the El Niño weather phenomenon.

The Civil Defense has asked to evacuate floodplains near rivers in the eastern plains, where waters of the Andean highlands will arrive.

The rains also affected seven of Bolivia's nine departments: La Paz, Beni, Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, Potosi and Tarija.
