An earthquake hit Caviahue and Copahue

A new earthquake surprised Neuquén. This time, the movement occurred in the municipality of Caviahue – Copahue and, according to the National Institute of Seismic Prevention (Inpres), magnitude III on the Mercalli scale.

The phenomenon occurred at 1:00 am in the morning, near the Copahue volcano and, according to the first reports, could be badociated with rock fractures (volcano-tectonics).

The epicenter was registered at 4.3 km east of Copahue, with a depth of 1.98 km and seven aftershocks were recorded.

The degree III at Mercalli can vibrate the grounds but be imperceptible to men. "You can see it inside the buildings, the suspended objects oscillate slightly, as well as the vibrations produced by the light trucks in the pbadage," explains Inpres.

According to the National Geological and Mining Service of Chile (Sernageomin) maintains a yellow-level technical alert in the region.
