Another racist crime in Minneapolis resulted in mass murder …

The American city of Minneapolis was once again the scene of massive protests against the murder of a young African American by local police. The event has been branded a new racist crime and occurred at a time when the trial was being conducted against an officer accused of the death of George floyd.

The new murder took place this weekend at the Brooklyn Center, a neighborhood in the suburbs of Minneapolis, and the victim was identified as Daunte Wright, 20.

The Brooklyn Center Police Department’s version is the one the man was driving a car and after being detained at a police checkpoint it was determined he had a pending court order.

The police statement says that the police tried to stop him but the man “got into the vehicle” until “an officer fired his gun, as a warning to the driver”said the statement. “The vehicle then traveled several blocks before colliding with another vehicle,” but the gunshot hit the driver, who died at the scene.

Brooklyn Mayor Mike Elliott called the shooting “tragic”, while Governor of the State of Minnesota Tim Walz, said on his Twitter account that he was following “the situation in Brooklyn Center” closely and that “mourns the loss of the life of another black at the hands of the police”.

Riots over Wright’s death began on Sunday evening. Hundreds of people gathered outside the Brooklyn Center Police Department headquarters and there were explosions and fires of garbage.

The police asked the demonstrators to disperse, they did not and the repression has started. Tear gas and stun grenades were fired. Then around midnight the National Guard was deployed to the scene and Mayor Elliott declared a curfew until 6 a.m.

During the mobilization was the Wright family. The, her mother, Katie Wright, said Daunte called her to tell him that the police had ordered him to stop his vehicle. She then heard the police tell her son to drop the phone and suddenly one of the police cut the call. Shortly afterwards, the young man’s girlfriend informed him that the young man had been killed.

Photos of the rally showed men jumping over the windshield of a police van. When the police presence was reduced after an hour, the crowd lit candles and chalked messages on the street: “Justice for Daunte Wright”.

“We call on the demonstrators to remain peaceful”Mayor Elliott wrote on Twitter. “Peaceful protesters are not fought hard,” he added.

The incident took place while the lawsuit against Derek Chauvin, a white cop accused of the death of George Floyd, an African-American last May in this city.

Floyd was killed when four officers attempted to arrest him for using a fake invoice to pay at a store. During his arrest, the officer Chauvin nailed him to the ground by pressing his knee against his neck until he caused injuries for which he later died of suffocation.

The case sparked a wave of protests across the United States for months against racism and police brutality., and its perpetrator is charged with second degree murder, punishable by up to 40 years in prison; third degree murder, with a maximum sentence of 25 years; and second degree murder, which results in up to 10 years of deprivation of liberty.
