Antibody treatment for Covid variants found

According to scientists, the antibody called LY-CoV1404 or LY3853113 acts on the site of Covid-19 where it showed few signs of mutation.

The discovery shows that it can maintain its effectiveness despite the fact that the virus that causes Covid-19 changes or mutates, it is clear from the report published in BioxRiv which is under review by other scientists.

The procedure gave encouraging results in the laboratory, which is a step forward in the fight against the pandemic.

Experts admit that there is a “desperate” need for new treatments that will remain effective in the long term, as existing antibody therapies have not.

The experience

Those responsible for developing the tests are pharmaceutical companies Ely Lilly and AbCelera Genomics, which are able to isolate cells from a donor’s blood.

The next step, they say, was to identify an antibody that manages to block the link between the cell and the viral peak, the key to that which allows SARS-Cov-2 to enter the human cell.

This LY-CoV1404 antibody has demonstrated high efficacy against almost all known variants, such as South African (B.1.351), Brazilian Hands (P.1), British (B.1.1.7), California (B.1.427 ). / B. 1.429) and New York (B.1.526).

At this preliminary stage, research reveals that the antibody interacts with amino acids that rarely mutate in different variants.

Hence the conclusion that scientists have come to and seek to consolidate the pairs, that it can have long-term effectiveness despite the rest of the structure of the virus being changed.
