Violent attacks on the Jewish community in the United States doubled last year, while attacks in general – which also include vandalism and harbadment – have remained near record levels, said Tuesday the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

The New York-based group recorded 1,789 antisemitic incidents, whether it's harbadment, vandalism or physical badaults, in 2018.. This is a 5% decrease from the 1,986 incidents of 2017, but this remains the third highest figure since the organization began recording in the 1970s. The figure for 2017 was a 57% increase over 2016 and the highest for more than two decades.

"It is clear that we must remain vigilant in our efforts to combat violent anti-Semitism and denounce it in all its forms, regardless of its origin and regardless of the political affiliation of its defenders", said Jonathan Greenblatt, director of the ADL.
